True North on stamp duty

Published 15.08.07

Small format jobs don’t get much bigger than designing stamps for Royal Mail. That is, of course, until you start designing Harry Potter stamps for Royal Mail – which is exactly what True North have been doing.

True North’s work on stamps started last summer when the Manchester design agency was invited by the rather important sounding Royal Mail Stamp Advisory Committee to participate in a general scoping exercise for stamps celebrating the golden age of British Grand Prix. These stamps were released on 3rd of July, the week of the British Grand Prix at Silverstone. The Harry Potter stamps were released soon after, on the 17th of July, coinciding with the publication of the final in the series of boy wizard novels.

“It has been a while since a Northern agency has been able to put their name to a set of stamps. To have designed two that are released in such close proximity is unprecedented and we couldn’t be more proud.” says Martin Carr, Managing Director.

True North are also responsible for the Turner Prize 2007’s visual identity. The job is all the more exciting as this year is the first the Turner Prize Exhibition will take place in the North – running in Tate Liverpool from the 19th of October to the 13th of January 2008.
