Uniform stay ‘fresh’ with 3 nominations

Creative consultancy Uniform prove that they are up there with the cream of the crop, having been nominated for 3 Fresh Creative awards. The awards, which recognise outstanding creativity and innovation outside of the M25, are well respected within the industry and draw multiple entries from a whole host of agencies. Uniform will go up against the likes of Elmwood, The Chase, True North and Mark Studio.

Uniform’s work for creative partner Liverpool Everyman and Playhouse sees them selected for 2 categories; Graphic Design - Posters and Graphic Design - Best use of Typography. The posters, which form part of a larger promotional campaign, detail the theatres’ 2008 individual shows and accompany the 2008 theatre guides.

The consultancy’s brand and identity work for the Ceri Hand Gallery, also recently nominated for a Roses award, has been selected for the Graphic Design - Corporate Identity category. The gallery, which opened its doors in July, is the largest commercial, independent gallery of contemporary art in the UK outside of London. Uniform was commissioned to create a brand for it which was rolled out across a number of touch points and marketing materials including stationery, exhibition brochures, launch invites, gallery signage, bespoke plinths and ongoing advertising.

The results will be announced on the 25th September at the Imperial War Museum North, Manchester.
Code Computerlove creates a sensational new website for Original Source

Shower brand Original Source, part of PZ Cussons, has launched a new consumer website designed by Manchester digital marketing agency Code Computerlove (www.codecomputerlove.com).

The new site has been created to capitalise on the power of the web to deliver a brand experience that goes further than traditional forms of advertising to increase brand affinity, reinforce awareness and drive trial.

The theme of the site is ‘Sensation Seekers’, which promotes the brand’s core proposition – packed with natural stuff. Its youthful, exciting tone of voice, and fun and interactive features, appeals the Original Source core audience, adventurous 20-44 year old male and females.

Original Source brand manager Philippa Heywood said: “The overall strategy was to create an amazing site where consumers could really engage with the brand – and not be ‘just another shower gel site’ simply showcasing products.

“The idea of a sensation is a major USP for Original Source. By extending the idea of an intense natural experience to a ‘sensation’, we’re able to widen audience appeal to those who enjoy experiences such as adventure sports, spas, wine tasting and even a tomato fight in Spain!

She added: “The site will attract people back again and again through regularly updated relevant information. Still in its infancy, the current site is the start of a bigger idea that is being phased in – excitement will build over the coming months as new features of the site are revealed.”

Code Computerlove account director, Steve Peters explained the core features of the site. “The site uses an Original Source Experience Team – a selection of loyal brand advocates who represent a good cross section of Original Source’s target audience - to speak to and seek out fellow Sensation Seekers. The Original Source Experience Team roams the world in a camper van looking for sensations and reporting back on what’s happening. Visitors to the site can read their blogs of recent experiences, get advice on sensations and cultural experiences to try and view team biographies.

“The idea for this came from the fact that Original Source products already create ‘talkability’ and have a loyal band of brand advocates, who share experiences talk and passionately about the products and brand on social networking sites. The site encourages more people to join in these discussions and enables the brand to reach more likeminded people.

Steve added: “The site also offers consumers the chance to become sensation seekers and win sensory experiences given away monthly for a year. To be in with a chance of winning, people simply tell the Original Source Experience Team why they deserve to be considered by describing their sensations. Some of the winners will also be provided with a camera so that they can post filmed content or photos alongside their sensation report from the experience days. These will be displayed flying from the back of a retro plane in the Flying Gallery section.

“As an imaginative and fun way to demonstrate the product, that again offers an experience, the range is presented as a board game. Users can throw the dice which chooses a product to view, or click on a product attribute or type - relax, detox, tingle, functional, new, shower, hair care.”

The site designer, John Lander of Code Computerlove, said: “The fresh vibrant hyper-real landscape design portrays a fantastical outdoors world where extra special, extra sensory, natural products grow. Everything is ‘pumped up’ to deliver the idea of extreme natural sensation and celebrate the intense product credentials. An Original Source ‘eden’.

“Flash animation adds depth to the image as well as movement – users can zoom in and out of elements on the site and control items like dice. The high impact, sensational feel is enhanced by the cinematic wide screen effect and the use of digitally created images rather than photography, even when showcasing the products. Kitch retro items, like the 50s aeroplane design and campervan, deliver personality and match the brand’s tone of voice.”

Code Computerlove was appointed by PZ Cussons in January 2008 as the retained digital partner for its Original Source and Carex brands. The agency also works with clients including HMV, Waterstone’s, Kimberly Clark Corporation (Huggies/DryNites), PZ Cussons (Carex / Original Source/Imperial Leather), Crown paints, Lex, Brother UK, First Transpennine Express, Premier Foods, NUS and Hillarys.

Code Computerlove (www.codecomputerlove.com) is a full service digital marketing agency offering website design and build, and online media and marketing services. Formed in 1999, Code currently employs 46 people at its offices in central Manchester.

-ENDS-
Reach BCS Meets Prime Minister

Reach BCS' Zulf Ali took time out this week to accompany Simon Danczuk, Rochdale’s Labour Parliamentary Candidate, to a meeting with Prime Minister Gordon Brown. The pair visited 10 Downing Street to discuss the importance of enterprise in helping create the jobs that make a local economy successful.

Zulf Ali said: “I was delighted to be invited to meet the Prime Minister and other Government ministers. I made it clear to them that banks should be better regulated and should be pressed to be more supportive of small and start-up businesses. It was good to tell the Prime Minister and Government Ministers like Hazel Blears, the Local Government and Communities Minister, and Jane Kennedy, the Treasury Minister, what the economic situation is like on the ground in Rochdale.”

Next stop - Buckingham Palace on the 14th July!

<http://www.reachbcs.com>

Earlier this year Reach BCS commissioned the world-renowned 'eBoy' studios in Berlin to create customised artwork to grace the walls of Reach’s studio and to create a very limited run of coffee coasters.

eBoy's client list reads like a who's who of cutting-edge 'yoof' labels including Adidas, Coca Cola, Pepsi, MTV, Wired Magazine, and now Reach BCS. An album cover design for Groove Armada and collaborations with Paul Smith and Dona Karan are typical of their creative partnerships. Last year, a huge poster of 'Future Oslo' covered the side of Oslo Central Station and an adapted version can be found on the walls of Reach BCS.

Visit our website www.reachbcs.com where you can get a FREE Limited Edition Klikin’ coffee coaster, if your nice, we'll send you two.

www.ReachBCS.com

First Transpennine express launches two new digital campaigns

In its continued digital marketing drive, train operator First TransPennine Express (FTPE) has been working with digital agency Code Computerlove (www.codecomputerlove.com <http://www.codecomputerlove.com/> ) to create two new campaigns to target key audiences, students and Edinburgh Festival goers.

The student campaign is an exclusive online-only deal to 16-25 year olds, offering half price train fares if they book online using their
16-25 Railcard.

Code's FTPE account manager, Ian Rabagliati said: "To drive traffic to the section of the website promoting the deal www.tpexpress.co.uk/tickets/students, we are running an online banner advertising campaign on Facebook and other key youth sites, and have designed email marketing tools targeting students to book train travel online. The campaign uses the strapline "It's cheaper by train, because there's more to life." People are being targeted via the FTPE database.

First TransPennine Express is also launching a microsite this month http://www.tpexpress.co.uk/Edinburgh-Festival-08/ to capitalise on visitors travelling to Edinburgh's Fringe Festival and other Scottish festivals. The site is being supported by an e-marketing campaign and PR.

Code's Ian Rabagliati added: "FTPE is sponsoring elements of the Fringe Festival this year so we have created a microsite that provides details of events taking place throughout the summer, as well as a promotion to win tickets, travel and accommodation for these events. The microsite is being supported by PR, email marketing and off-line marketing. The
festivals run in August."

These latest campaigns follow the success of First TransPennine's Liverpool Capital of Culture microsite, which has generated huge interest and an increase in train bookings.

Dave Crocker, marketing manager for First TransPennine Express, said, "Our objective when we appointed Code last year was for the website, whose address appears on virtually all informational and promotional material, to become the central focus of an active, stimulating and creative business generator.

"Putting digital at the heart of our marketing strategy is really working for us. Our digital campaigns have resulted in an 85% increase in online ticket sales in 2007/08 and even our paid search campaigns have been yielding a nine to one return on investment, higher than our forecast and more than traditional advertising has done in the past. As a result, we will be continuing with targeted campaigns to drive ticket sales and encourage people to make a leisure journey by train."

First TransPennine Express was launched in February 2004 and runs services between major northern cities and towns - including Scotland, The Lake District, Yorkshire, Lancashire, Merseyside and Greater Manchester.

Clear unveils creative for Mcarthur glen

Leading designer shopping outlet group McArthurGlen is launching its 70% Sale next week with a new press, poster and radio campaign created by Clear Marketing Communications, who took over the group’s advertising earlier this year.

The new campaign will support the group’s seven designer outlets across the UK, in Chester (Cheshire Oaks), Ashford in Kent, Bridgend in Wales, East Midlands, Livingston near Edinburgh, Swindon and York.

The headlines - prepare for your biggest ever shopping trip and you’re going to need a bigger car – and images communicate how shoppers can load up with great savings and buy more top designer names for less in the sale.

Clear Creative Director Tony Price said: “Sales are a critical time for retailers, none more so than in the current economic climate, so creating cut through and standout is everything. We have communicated the key sale message is an engaging and creative way, without losing the brand essence of top quality designer brands for less and appeal to core female audiences.”

Shannon Luxford, UK Marketing Manager, said: “We have seen a strong lift in both sales and footfall YTD across the portfolio and we expect the sale period to continue this growth, as more and more consumers look to designer outlets for branded product at discount prices especially in these times of economic uncertainty.”

Clear is working with each of the seven centres to implement local marketing campaigns to increase awareness of the sale. Media is being handled by Carat.

-ENDS-

For further press information please Kirsty Hunt
E: khpr@btinternet.com T: 07816 876091 / 01625 530854
Clear Marketing Communications
SCOTLAND: Woodside House, 20-23 Woodside Place Glasgow G3 7QF T: 0141 582 1480
MANCHESTER: 121 Palatine Road, Didsbury, Manchester M20 3YA T: 0161 448 8008
www.clearmarketing.co.uk

ABOUT CLEAR
Clear was established in November 2001.
Get yourself a copy of July's Computer Arts Projects…

...as I'm in it. I was asked to take part in the Designer Challenge for July's Web Design issue of Computer Arts Projects, which was nice. 3 designers were asked to design a logo and home page for a 10's to 14's summer football school called Projects Soccer School. This was a fictional brief.

We were all given an intro para, photo's to choose from and links to use. Then it was left to us. You can see my submission on my site at www.flashtemple.com or go out and buy a copy.

CHARITY GETS CLEAR MARKETING ON SIDE

Clear Marketing Communications, the Manchester based strategic marketing company, has created a stunning new brand identity for OnSide, an exciting new North West charity that will provide facilities and opportunities for young people.

A new logo and strapline – always there for young people, brochure, leaflets and other marketing / fund raising collateral have been created by Clear’s award winning design team to help to promote the charity and raise much needed funds to drive the scheme forward.

Clear Managing Director, Jim Smith has also joined the charity’s board as head of marketing.

OnSide’s initial aim is to create five purpose built youth facilities across the North West that will be modelled on the much admired Bolton Lads and Girls Club, which is currently used by 3,500 young people a week. Plans for OnSide Youth Centres are currently being developed in Blackburn, Oldham and Carlisle.

The charity brings together local authorities, volunteers and leading North West businesses. Jim Smith will work alongside fellow board members including Bill Holroyd (chairman), Ross Warburton, Nick Hopkinson, Virginia Halliwell, Chris Oglesby, William Lees-Jones and Margaret Preston to promote the new initiative. OnSide is headed by Jeremy Glover, chief executive of The Bolton Lads and Girls Club.

Jim Smith said: “This is hugely exciting scheme to be involved in. OnSide provides a much more realistic answer to anti-social behaviour than ASBOs by offering a range of activities and services in purpose built premises open seven days a week. The brand identity and language used has been designed to appeal to club members as well as communicate what the scheme is about. The marketing campaign will focus on raising awareness of the scheme, to gain supporters and raise much needed funds. We need £300,000 for the first three years.

“The success of Bolton’s Lads and Girls Club has been based on a successful partnership between local councils, Primary Care Trusts, volunteers, funding bodies and the private sector. We are keen to get more local businesses and key individuals from the region involved in this worthwhile scheme. Any business or individual interested in becoming a supporter can call Virginia Halliwell on 01204 540103.”

Clear already produces award winning for its other nominated charity ASH, a public health charity campaigning to eliminate the harm caused by Tobacco. For more information visit www.clearmarketing.co.uk

Clear has donated all marketing design and print to OnSide.

-ENDS-

For further press information please Kirsty Hunt
E: khpr@btinternet.com T: 07816 876091 / 01625 530854
Clear Marketing Communications
SCOTLAND: Woodside House, 20-23 Woodside Place Glasgow G3 7QF T: 0141 582 1480
MANCHESTER: 121 Palatine Road, Didsbury, Manchester M20 3YA T: 0161 448 8008
www.clearmarketing.co.uk

ABOUT ONSIDE
18 Spa Road, BOLTON SL1 4AG T: 01204 540103 Jeremy.glover@OnSidenorthwest.org www.OnSidenorthwest.org

Based on the proven successful model of the Bolton Lads and Girls Club, OnSide Centres will offer:
Seven days/nights-a-week activities in purpose-built premises
• A mix of full time staff and community volunteers
• Sporting and other activities at all levels
• Mentoring for the most vulnerable youngsters
• Outreach work, taking OnSide directly into local communities
• Provision for young people with disabilities
• Family support
• Personal development opportunities and achievement recognition
• Project-based services tackling issues such as obesity, emotional health,
substance misuse, bullying and teenage pregnancy
• Outdoor adventure and residential experiences away from the Club
• Youth Enterprise Academy, smoothing the transition from school to employment

The Government has signalled its support for youth projects, which achieve success through partnership, co-funding arrangements and long-term sustainable support from the private sector. OnSide clearly aligns with this policy. Effective partnership arrangements have been established with key stakeholders in the targeted towns, including the local councils, the private sector, Primary Care Trusts, third sector organisations and a range of local, regional and national funding bodies. OnSide supporters include Clear Marketing, Eversheds, Credit Suisse, NWDA, Tom Bloxham, Brendan Flood and The Stoller Foundation.

ABOUT CLEAR
Clear was established in November 2001.
Moving On Up

Single (freelance) businessman seeks sharing and caring co-workers for sub-let relationships in 400 square feet of lovable M20 office space.

Polarity Marketing is on the move and moving on up in the world - again. After a fully-occupied seven-month period in bargain basement premises - deceptively spacious and cooly-located beneath an Estate Agents on Barlow Moor Road in fashionable West Didsbury - we are literally moving up the office property ladder to 400 square feet of lovingly renovated office space on the first floor above the shop.

Polarity Marketing is also on the look out for top-floor tenants to share the premises. Sub-lets are available for sole traders and other small businesses who need desk space and shared office facilities at highly competitive rates.

Suitable tenants may include designers (or their suits!), web developers, PR and advertising types, IFAs, or virtual PAs in need of a real desk, telecomms access and some non-virtual thinking space.

However, all prospective tenants must have working knowledge of a kettle, belief in the power of 'Fairies' and 'Liquids' - rather than the mythical washing-up fairies - and have non-competing / complementary business tastes.

As a growing marketing consultancy, Polarity Marketing attracts big name clients such as Business Post, Pearson VUE, Greater Manchester Probation, Halliwells, Super Office, Ashton Regeneration (part of Tameside Council) and Accredit UK (part of the National Computing Centre), and is looking forward to its next stage of market development in a South East-facing space that is flooded with natural daylight - the genuine, recently-renovated 'light and airy' article in a prime location on the busy Barlow Moor Road / Palatine Road junction, opposite Moor Allerton School.

Children at the prepatory school, including the author's son William, have already learnt (courtesy of West Didsbury Residents' Association) about the local attractions - herons, Marie Louise Gardens, the Araucaria tree (aka Monkey Puzzle) in my office garden - and play and eat at local establishments such as SanSou, Pizza Express and The Northern Tennis & Squash Club.

The area is also steeped in local history as, at turn of the 19th century, black and white frontages were very much in fashion, as still existing on the row of 'olde shoppes' known as Tripps Corner. The right-hand shop at the corner was Judith Taylor's dress shop and Judith is now my landlady!

Outdoor advertising space in this corner of the world has been valued at £7,000 so watch out for the interlocking Ps of the Polarity logo in the first floor window spaces, next to the ornamental black strapwork.

The shop and basement are also currently available for rental and interested parties should email David Whiteside or call him on 07717 308 906.
Little Fish Lands Big Chip

Well what a great end to a great first year of freelance, I was named winner in the Best Freelancer/Micro-Enterprise at this years Big Chip Awards on Thursday [www.bigchipawards.com](http://www.bigchipawards.com/page.asp?id=3056). Like in my short and sweet speech I just want to thank everyone who I have worked with and for this year. If it wasn't for you this year would have been a bit crazy.

It was also a good night for a couple of friends of mine, Fudge Studios and Love Creative. Fudge won the Best Use of Visual Design category with Kitty Cooper and Love won Best Digital Marketing and Brand Development with Dr Martens Design A Boot (which I was a part of) and also the Big Chip New Media Agency Award.

Pity the old super 8 projectors were broke...
