Collaborative Study – Artist and Academic Exchange: Application for an Artist in Residence Scheme
We are looking for an artist in resident to be based at the University of Manchester (UOM), (with no current affiliation with UOM) whereby through collaboration funding will be sought from the Leverhulme Trust. This is an excellent opportunity for the Artist and the Textile Design, Fashion Retail and Management Research Group within the School of Materials at the University of Manchester.
Proposed Programme for Residency: Consumer Insight into one of the below areas relating to buyer/wearer behaviour in healthy or non-healthy adolescents, adults or children; fusing artistic, and academic methodologies to understand, investigate and document the research using a collaborative, creative and a multidisciplinary approach.
The broad areas of interest relate to buying and/or wearer behaviour, as follows:
- Fashion/Clothing as a Social Tool and the Significance of Self Expression using Fashion/Clothing Today
- Decision Making in fashion/clothing – rational and irrational processes (buying and/or wearing)
- How Wearers Visualise Fashion/Clothing they want to buy and wear
- The Symbolic Meaning and Creation of Individual Style through Management of Personality and Emotion
- The Possible Self Theory and Symbolic Self-Completion Theory
- The importance of Product Attributes and Design Variables to Wearers
- The Functions of Fashion and Clothing Today
- Appearance Management
Variable methods of artistic expression are accepted, e.g. installation, video, sound, painting, drawing, etc.
