exposures - call for entries

Closing date: 31.07.08

exposures – the UK's leading competitive festival for student film and moving image – is looking for the talent of the future. Call for entries is now open for the 2008 edition to be held in November at Cornerhouse and Urbis, Manchester's two leading contemporary arts venues, co-hosts of exposures for the first time this year.

The 2008 exposures festival is, like its predecessors, looking to find new and exciting filmmaking talent amongst today's students. However, this year's competition widens the criteria for entries to include not only film but all aspects of the moving image ie video, mobile 'phone work, animation or visual art installations. The competition is open to students who have created their work whilst studying on any UK course between August 2007 and July 2008. Work does not have to have been made as part of the course. Pieces should be under 30 minutes long.

Selected work will get the opportunity to be a part of the exciting public festival in November, with those who are successful in the competitive strands having the chance to win film equipment and distribution deals. Work to be considered by the judging panel can fall within any genre: drama, documentary, experimental, music video, comedy, whatever works best. This year's exposures theme is change.

In addition to the five-day public showcase, the exposures festival experience also offers the chance to debate with guest speakers, participate in practical workshops and take advantage of networking opportunities.

exposures also responds to the growing number of younger filmmakers with the underexposed strand which showcases pieces from under-19s. Selected work forms part of the exposures festival. Details and entry forms can be found on the exposures website at www.exposuresfestival.co.uk.

Last year's exposures received over 600 entries from more than 100 education institutions around the country. Now in its 15th year it has grown to become a hugely important five-day festival. Unconstrained by commercial considerations, output from students is at its most raw and interesting; creativity and imagination is paramount, and the quality consistently impressive.
