The Teenage Market: A space for creative young people

Screen Stockport Short Film Festival is looking for young talented creatives and entrepreneurs to be involved in ‘The Teenage Market’ as part of its first ‘Sunday Social’ event taking place in Stockport’s Victorian Market Hall on Sunday 1st April.
The Sunday Social event aims to build a creative community in Stockport, providing networking opportunities for Stockport’s young creatives, entrepreneurs and performers and creating a platform for them to showcase their talents in such areas as film, music, digital media and visual art & design.
‘The Teenage Market’ is a new initiative being organised by 17-year-old Aquinas College student Tom Barratt offering free stalls to young people and arts-based entrepreneurs who would like an opportunity to sell their products or promote their skills and services.
Tom would like to hear from locally-based painters, sculptors, graphic artists, graffiti artists, fashion designers/stylists, jewellery designers, web designers, photographers, film makers, animators, beauty therapists, chefs/bakers or any young person starting a business who would like to run a free stall.
He is also looking for up and coming bands or singer songwriters who can perform acoustically, instrumentalists, poets, comedians, performance/street artists and dancers – street & contemporary.
Tom hopes The Teenage Market will bring together Stockport’s creative community under one roof.
“Stockport’s marketplace has real character with some amazing architecture and I think the area has the potential to be a centre for music and artistic creativity just like the Northern Quarter in Manchester,” says Tom, who is studying Art and Product Design at A level.
“With ‘The Teenage Market’ we want to give young people the opportunity to come together and collaborate on ideas which will hopefully help build a new creative community in the Stockport market area,” states Tom.
As well as showcasing creative talent, the Screen Stockport Sunday Social will also have live music, film screenings and fashion shows organised with local vintage outlets.
The event will take place in Stockport’s Victorian Market Hall, Sunday 1st April between 12 and 4pm.
