Skillset Cymru to PROGRESS the next generation of creative leaders

Skillset Cymru have announced a new training scheme that will provide high-level leadership skills for emerging managers within Wales’ creative, digital and media industries.
PROGRESS is an intensive training programme, developed in response to needs identified by industry in West Wales and The Valleys, that will provide a ‘stepping stone’ for creative, digital and media managers looking to further their leadership skills. It will equip middle managers and junior producers in the industry with the practical skills and know-how they need to lead and motivate others, develop their communication skills and to manage change.
The six-day course, running from October 2011 to February 2012, will include modules on ‘Self-awareness’, ‘Effective People Management’, ‘Developing Great Communication Skills’ and ‘Creative Leadership in Practice’. The training will take place through a unique series of two-day residential weekend retreats, to minimise disruption in the workplace. In addition to training, each participant will be supported by an industry mentor and will receive their own self-awareness personality profile report.
We believe PROGRESS will lay solid foundations for the next generation of leaders in Wales’ creative, digital and media industries
The course programme has been developed by well-respected media training organisation, The White Room, whose clients include BSkyB and BBC. Training sessions will be delivered through some of the creative sector’s most respected trainers, including Alec McPhedran (Skills Channel TV), David Parrish (T-Shirts and Suits Ltd) and Philip Hempsted (Psycuity & Yuuguu), alongside guest speakers and case studies.
Wayne Full, Project Manager at Skillset said, “We believe PROGRESS will lay solid foundations for the next generation of leaders in Wales’ creative, digital and media industries.”
Places on the course are limited with just 15 places available. Through the subsidy provided by Skillset the cost to companies is just £695 inc VAT per place (subject to eligibility), which will include accommodation costs. To be eligible, participants must either live or work in the ‘Convergence’ regions of West Wales and the Valleys.
