Putting Salford music on the map

Creative Spark, with a helping hand from the musical minds of Salford, has created a map highlighting music hotspots in the city.

From Salford Lad’s Club to BluePrint Studios every venue and iconic location has its place.

Creative Spark was commissioned by Salford City Council “after some frenzied use of a scalpel, some coloured paper and a little creativity” explained Director Neil Marra.

Author David Nolan led the research for the music map. Residents’ memories were also vital in building up a picture of the sounds of Salford and a MySpace page was set up for people to discuss their favourite Salford bands, venues and gigs.

Explaining the idea behind the design, Neil said: “The market has been saturated with vector design and we wanted this project to stand out as well as having an identity which all ages could relate to.”

You can view the map in all its 3D glory at the Quiffs, Riffs and Tiffs exhibition showing at Salford Museum and Art Gallery until October 2009.
