Following extensive consultation with its members, Northern Soho has officially launched its innovative MentorMatch scheme.

The scheme will give members the unique opportunity to work with experienced mentors working in the creative industries, who have earned their stripes in organisations varying from the largest agency group in the North of England to the smallest freelancers working on their own.

Northern Soho was set up by business women Sarah Cheal in June 2010, with the aim of raising awareness of the North West’s distinctive creative proposition, facilitating and encouraging a productive dialogue between the industry and client marketers, and to create greater collaboration between members.

Northern Soho is a collaborative movement, run by and for people working in the creative industries in the North West region. To become a member, of which they are now over 300, individuals must pledge to donate just 12 hours of their time over a 12 month period to participate in activities that support the objectives of Northern Soho. There is also an opportunity to meet on the last Thursday of every month to share ideas on how to expand businesses, discuss successes and explore opportunities for collaborative working, all carried out in the vibrant and friendly atmosphere of the Barcelona Bar in Manchester’s Northern Quarter.

Sarah, who was recently nominated for the Forward Ladies ‘Not for Profit’ Business Women of the Year Award for Northern Soho said: "I am so pleased to see the results of everyone’s hard work over the last 12 months. This new service has been developed after a series of structured innovation sessions with members, facilitated by Next Idea…! Mentoring and Coaching was voted the number one activity that members wanted to see to help them develop their careers and further showcase the great talent that comes out of the region.”

Sarah continues: “This consultation and all subsequent feedback has been invaluable and I really feel we are developing an organisation that has the needs of its members at its core.”

This innovative scheme has been developed by Really Useful Research & Development Consultancy and friends, and it will see Northern Soho members matched with independent and experienced high-level business mentors who will help them with their personal and business development. Mentoring will be delivered through a network of providers across the North West and one-to-one sessions will be supplemented with a series of MentorMatch events in the coming months.
