Media City: UK Moving Forward
The vision of MediaCity:UK is fast becoming a reality with the appointment of two senior executives to lead its development.
Brian Greasley has been chosen as Managing Director by Peel Holdings, whilst Jane Deane has been selected as Programme Director by MediaCity:UK partners – Salford City Council, North West Development Agency, and Central Salford URC. Both positions have been created to take the project forward and create the UK’s first, purpose-built media city at Salford Quays.
Greasley, former Chief Executive of I-Play, said: “I am delighted to lead MediaCity:UK, it will fundamentally transform our definition of media. Through a combination of world class tenants and the most advanced technology solutions, MediaCity:UK will come to represent the embodiment of what the industry currently calls convergence.”
Deane, joining the team from her previous role as Project Director for New East Manchester, added: “The delivery of MediaCity:UK will be a transformational driver in the regeneration of Salford, the North West, and the future of the UK’s media and creative industries. I look forward to working with all the regional and national partners who will help to turn the vision for MediaCity:UK into a vibrant reality.”
“Jane’s passion and commitment for MediaCity:UK is impressive,” explained Chris Farrow, Chief Executive of Central Salford URC, on the selection. “Her track record in securing and rolling out large, complex projects is well established.”
Meanwhile Central Salford URC’s chair, Felicity Goodey, commented on Brian’s appointment: “I’m delighted that Brian has been appointed at this crucial time and I’m looking forward to working with him to bring creative companies from across the world to MediaCity:UK.”
Work on the first phase of development is now in full swing, and scheduled for completion in 2011. This phase of the development will include the BBC buildings, 535,000 sq ft of office space, 224,000 sq ft of broadcast studios and retail space.
