On Thursday 9th June, Zion Arts Centre’s Gallery Space will be transformed into an artistic showcase and industrious workshop of creativity! Short film creative champions Kinofilm will be exhibiting the creativity behind the world of film advertisement in eastern Europe with the launch of their Polish Film Poster Exhibition featuring art from the nation’s cinematic golden age from the 1950s-80s.

Kino’s Polish Film Poster exhibition showcases a crucial period where advertisement and art combined to reflect the nation’s own political climate as well as emerging trends and experiments in art form. Ranging from the 1950 Soviet propaganda following World War II where film was seen as a potential for metaphor rather than direct representation through to the pop-art, cubist and constructivist influences of the 1960s. The exhibition provides its audience with a journey through Poland’s brief and glorious cultural cinematic legacy from its infancy through to its fall following the close of the Cold War and the globalisation from Hollywood giants. The Kino Polish Poster exhibition was a project curated for Kinofilm Festival 2010.

Simultaneously Zion is proud to welcome winning art project ‘Unravel’ – a series of national workshops encouraging members of the public to hand paint sections of a length of film which, when completed, will create an epic 16 hour piece of film tracing the hand painted products of Britain’s diverse population from John O’Groats to Lands End!

The two free events will be taking place from 6-8pm in Zion’s gallery space and anyone is welcome to come and celebrate these two diverse and exciting film projects over a glass of wine and nibbles.

Private View: Thursday 9th June, 18:00 – 20:00

Zion Arts Centre,
335 Stretford Road,
Manchester, M15 5ZA

The exhibition will run until 25th June, Normal opening hours of the exhibition will be Monday to Fridays 5- 9 pm and Saturdays 10 am – 4.00 pm.
