Creative agency Dinosaur re-brand The Manchester Picnic, as it returns to Piccadilly Gardens this August

Creative agency Dinosaur have created a new identity for this year’s Manchester Picnic. Organised by Piccadilly Partnership in conjunction with CityCo, it returns once more to Piccadilly Gardens for a weekend of foodie fun, from Friday 5 to Sunday 7 August.

Building on the success of last year’s event, which attracted over 10,000 picnic-ers in total; the brief for 2011 was to give the brand a contemporary edge, whilst appealing to a broad family demographic of kids and grown-ups alike.

The creative has been carried across 50,000 leaflets which will be distributed throughout the city centre and beyond, to attract visitors within a 60 minute drive time. It will also feature as short animations on outdoor screens within the city centre, including Spinningfields, Piccadilly Gardens, and The Printworks; and on-line on various sites including the Visit Manchester website, featured as a key event attracting tourists to the city centre this Summer.

Dan Pitchford, Creative Director at Dinosaur says,

This year we gave the picnic more of a festival feel. We featured a fun sandwich illustration which formed the event’s identity, incorporating a muted colour palette to add a vintage twist. The brand has a strong family appeal which reflects the extent of the activities, food and refreshments on offer throughout the weekend

Alexandra King, Director, Piccadilly Partnership says,

We’re delighted with Dinosaur’s interpretation of the brief, and the fun and eye-catching concept they have created should help us attract lots of visitors to Piccadilly Gardens for an event which we hope will be even bigger and better than last year’s

The weekend will include strawberries and cream, paella, freshly squeezed juices and a hog roast, and will feature DJs, live music, science fun, and baby ballet as well as a Teddy Bear’s Picnic – which proved a firm favourite during the 2010 event.
