Digital companies to benefit from traditional media talent

Vision+Media has re-commissioned its innovative Digital Media Exchange (DMEX) scheme and is encouraging digital companies to host placements as part of the programme.
Designed to bring a rich talent pool of skilled professionals from the traditional media industry to the digital sector, DMEX has so-far placed 30 highly experienced TV professionals into digital media businesses. The new programme extends the scheme to also allow professionals from radio, music and publishing to be considered for placements.
The scheme contributes towards the cost of the freelancer’s time, with participating companies paying just £30 a day for 20 days. Placement timescales are flexible; the freelancer can be hosted onsite or work remotely; and they can be used for discreet projects or integrated into a team for the duration of the exchange. Host companies have complete choice in selecting their media professional.
Previous host companies have used DMEX as an opportunity to serve both their client’s needs and to work on internal projects. In recent exchanges, an award-winning director/producer has created a viral campaign for a digital media agency, a TV researcher has helped a digital company to explore online interactive content and a camera operator has created promotional online videos.
Media professionals that will be available will include: writers, journalists, editors, camera operators, producers, researchers and directors. Possible projects could include a journalist writing copy for the web, or a radio producer creating podcasts.
In return for their time on the programme, participants will learn about how to migrate their specialist skills to digital environments.
Mark Beaumont, Director of Dinosaur said: “The DMEX placement partnered us with the esteemed TV Director Matt Bloom who helped us to think in a completely new way about the process of film production. We’ve collaborated on projects together with him since which has led to fireworks! I’d definitely recommend a DMEX placement to anyone who is interested in expanding their horizons in new creative areas.”
Lynn Kelly, Head of Skills at Vision + Media said: “DMEX has previously proved to be a big success, with many companies striking up productive long-term working relationships as a result. We wanted to extend the scheme to ensure that as many digital companies as possible can benefit from the scheme.”
