Creative futures
Exciting times are ahead for Manchester’s young creative talent, as a revolutionary education centre prepares to open its doors this summer.
Launching in September 2007, Futureworks is a centre of excellence for education in creative media, developing the next generation of professionals in Audio, Film&TV, Digital Arts and Games.
The £2m, six-storey facility on St.Peter’s Square is home to fourteen production studios (including audio, post production and video editing suites), three computer labs, a chroma-key soundstage.
Through close collaboration with organisations at the leading edge of media production, Futureworks have developed innovative courses that aim to equip graduates with both high-level technical skills and more transferable skills such as collaborative working, workflow management and the ability to liaise with clients.
A range of courses are available to degree level and beyond, offering both vocational and academic study options, and covering a wide range of specialist subject areas.
Paul Collins, Senior Manager at Futureworks says, “The vision behind Futureworks is to create a unique production and post production facility designed specifically for education”.
“By creating a learning environment that exactly emulates the real-world, students gain experience at the centre of a high specification, working production facility as they study”. As the media industries in the North West enter a new era, the city looks set to stimulate and attract a huge range of media-related activity from advertising to design, video games to music and new media not yet invented. Futureworks aims to provide a world-class education facility that is able to support the industry by helping to develop highly skilled graduates and future professionals.
“We envisage Futureworks becoming an innovative, creative hub for talented future professionals across an ever-expanding range of media industries.”
Courses start in October with open days running throughout August and September.
