Calling Manchester Creatives: Your chance to help shape the next generation of design talent

The White Room are on the lookout for people working in the design industry to take part in an exciting event on November 17th – providing a hands-on flavour of life in the creative sector to over 1,200 college students.
Taking place at The Lowry and Digital World Centre in Salford, New Creative Futures (http://www.newcreativefutures.com/ is an interactive event designed to inspire and inform young people about their future careers in the creative, digital and media industries.
Throughout the event attendees will get ‘hands-on’ advice from industry professionals who will be demonstrating the work they do on a daily basis, and the path that has lead them to their career – essentially talking about what they do, and how they got there.
As part of the event we will be hosting a ‘Design Studio’ – one of 10 zones set up on the day. As such we are looking for 3 people working in design to be part of the studio. If you’re a graphic designer, illustrator, photographer, or product designer (freelance or employee) and you’d like to get involved, we’d love to hear from you.
The brief is simple!
We would need you to be able to talk to event attendees about your career path, answering questions they might have about the steps they need to take, etc. You would need to showcase your portfolio of work to them, and also be able to provide hands-on demonstrations of how you work. You would need to bring along your laptop and any software you regularly use whilst working, but screens will be available for you to plug into.
We have a small fee available to cover your time, and you’ll be playing a big part in developing the next generation of creative talent in Greater Manchester.
If you would like to get involved, please contact Phil Birchenall at The White Room on 0161 446 2991 or birchenall@thewhiteroomcec.com
The New Creative Futures expo event is part of a wider initiative being led by The White Room on behalf of Aimhigher and The Greater Manchester Challenge.
