It’s not uncommon to think music videos are merely five minute promos highlighting a band’s good looks and guitar hooks. However, in recent years there has been an influx of music videos that reimagine the preconceived concepts of marrying moving image and music. With plenty of hands on examples and experience, the panel will explore the trend of the music video as a creative vehicle.

Guest speakers

Max Hattler – Max is an award winning filmmaker and visual artist interested in the space between abstraction and figuration in the moving image. Working extensively in the field of audio-visual performance Max has created visuals for Basement Jaxx, Diplo, The Egg and Ladyscraper.

Ian Pons Jewell – Ian is signed to Pulse Films and has directed music videos for DJ Shadow, Crystal Fighters, Tinie Tempah and Anna Calvi. He was also nominated for ‘Best New Director’ and won ‘Best Urban Video –Budget’ at the UK Music Video Awards in 2011.

Ewelina Aleksandrowicz & Andrzej Wojtas – Recent post-graduates Ewelina and Andrzej work collaboratively within the area of digital media, including film, DIY electronics, physical computing and AV Performance. They are currently creating live visuals and music videos for Australian band, HTRK and Warp Records signing, Leila.

Ollie Evans – Since his debut video for The Klaxons’, Atlantis to Interzone, Ollie Evans (Partizan) has followed with clips for The Gossip, Noisettes, Tom Vek, Sneaky Sound System, Foals and Edwyn Collins among others. Ollie also created the underground music/chat show web series, The Knocking Shop.
