Are you considering offering your services or launching a new product in China? It is a myth that only large companies can penetrate the Chinese market; small companies with knowledge of the market and business culture also have a good chance to succeed. This event will give you practical advice on steps you should take to make a name for your business in China. We will cover IP rights and contractual issues and will explain what you need to consider in terms of your target market, how you can establish your brand, and how you can handle subsequent communication and discussions with potential clients in China. We will talk about how you can protect your IP against counterfeiting, and ways to distribute, promote and sell your products in China.

China’s trade relations with Britain are deepening. Britain invests more in China than in any other Asian country and recently helped China with the design and construction of major building projects for the Beijing Olympics, including the ’Bird’s Nest’ National Stadium, the city’s new airport and the Olympic swimming pool. In return, China supports the British economy with more goods and investment than any other European country. Therefore, it seems natural that creative businesses in Britain are looking to China to find a manufacturer, sell their goods in the growing luxury consumer market or take advantage of China’s interest in British entertainment.

Speakers include:

Liz Ward of Virtuoso Legal, an IP law firm that advises a wide range of clients in respect of commercialising and defending their ideas, brands and technology as well as e-commerce and IT related legal issues.

Stephen Beddoe, a successful artist and curator who developed, launched and lead Artquest at the University of the Arts London (UAL). He is also business development manager for Creative and Cultural Industries at UAL and has organised a number of culture and knowledge transfer exchanges in China. He will talk about the Creative Industries in China and his experience during his visits.

Presentations will take place from 6-8pm followed by drinks and networking until 9pm.

This event is being organised by Own-it in partnership with Creative Connexions and UAL Ventures.
