Design Initiative Profile

Design Initiative is a specialist regional agency that works directly with practitioners, industry partners and commissioners to expand the market for quality design in the North West and to make the region a place known nationally and internationally for quality design practice and innovation.

Originally set up as the Liverpool Design Initiative in 1992, Design Initiative became one of the first Creative Industry Agencies to beestablished in the North West and has supported and grown themarket for contemporary designers ever since.

It is a cross-sector, design focused, publicly facing, publicly invested organisation operating within and beyond the region. It delivers a range of public and private sector programmes of support and development activity for designers, public agencies and commissioners.

It has a significant 15-year track record of:

? Informing and advising those working in and beyond the design sector of the value of contemporary design to company growth and competitiveness

? Initiating and delivering programmes of appropriate activity independently or in partnership with others to increase the profile and exposure of contemporary designers from the North West to a range of markets within the UK and Internationally

? Responding to the continuing professional development needs of the design sector by initiating and delivering sub-sector specific skills programmes which are industry focused and which lead to sustainable growth and profitability for all those who engage with and benefit from the programmes.

? Providing industry specific intelligence on the needs of the sector to those operating within the public sector and who are remitted to support the creative industries.

For creative professionals – Design Initiative offers one-to-one advice sessions for creative professionals on enterprise development, including portfolio critiques, guidance on business support and a range of market opportunities

For commissioners and clients – We offer an impartial matchmaking service to help purchasers, commissioners and exhibitors of design identify the right practitioner for their project. We also offer professional advice on all aspects of the commissioning process from writing briefs and selection processes to managing final implementation.
